Spatial light installation
Solid Revolver / Planeta K-30
Planeta K-30, St Petersburg
Solid Revolver places visitors inside a twenty-metre cylinder filled with a rotating cloud of light and sound. Its form shifts constantly, like charged particles caught in the magnetic trap of a collider. Visitors can move around inside it or stand at the centre, where the surrounding light becomes most intense.
Inside the Rotation
Solid Revolver is an installation that places the viewer at the centre of a process that tests perception. Inside a twenty-metre cylinder, a cloud of light rotates, constantly changing shape and direction. This elusive, unpredictable mass cannot escape the mechanism that creates it — like a swarm of charged particles beating in the magnetic trap of a collider.
The Visitor as Part of the Structure
People inside become particles too. They can preserve their freedom of movement or choose to become part of an ordered structure. The work can be experienced from outside, inside, and from its centre; each position changes the relationship between the body, shadows, sound, and the rotating light.
A Stage and an Installation
For its 2024 presentation at Planeta K-30, the installation worked both as an autonomous sound-and-light object and as a stage for visiting musicians. During their sets, its light responded to the performances. Broken Composers did not perform their own live set inside it at that event. The event-stage configuration is a documented version of the work, not a claim about every later installation.
Sound
The soundtrack treats sound as equal to light within one composition. A separate recording, solid revolver (install version), appeared on Bandcamp in 2025.
